A word from the Chairman:

On January 19th we had the first board meeting for the Friends of UMass Men’s Swimming and Diving (FUMSD). The energy in the room that night was outstanding and there have been an amazing number of projects tackled.

To date we have developed a charter and by-laws for FUMSD.We also have raised the awareness, at both the local and state level, regarding the absence of an aquatics facility in the new recreation center and established a mentoring program. We have also been working closely with Russ to relieve him of some of the alumni related tasks that take time away from his ability to coach and recruit.

We will be sharing more with everyone in May at the reunion. Our hope is that by next year at this time, we will be communicating with everyone via the web site, coordinating the reunion and other events, as well as taking a much more active role in fund raising for the program.

Please join me in thanking the board members, Jim Robertson, ’91, Justin Zeimetz ’06 and Sue Yarworth for all their help establishing, serving and promoting U-Mass Men’s Swimming and Diving.

If you would like to volunteer your time or services to assist with the board objectives, please contact John Gardiner.

The primary mission of the Board is to facilitate open communication among alumni, student athletes, coaches, parents and other interested parties about the developmental and operational needs of the program. The Board provides crucial support for fundraising, community out reach and student mentoring activities; members have the opportunity to influence the long-range success of the Men's Swimming and Diving Program and to ensure that it continues to provide a meaningful and enriching experience for student athletes and serve as a source of pride and accomplishment for the University community.
